Thanks, I Didn’t Make It!

Hello, hello!  Another Monday and I am feeling good.  Feeling good because I have an outfit post up, and I have finally gotten a chance to wear one of those dresses I bought a month or so back.  I am only a little disappointed that I didn’t get to go do my photo shoot in a location other than my backyard, but it’s summer and it’s hard to get too far from home to take photos when it’s hot out and there is so much humidity.  By the time I make my way down the road and set up my photo stuff, I’m a sweaty mess and no one wants to see that, especially me.  So, the backyard it usually is.

It was a  good day for photos, Saturday, nice weather and not too much humidity.  The mosquitoes though, they were a bit of a nuisance.  I managed to get a bite or two, but I guess it was worth it for a couple of photos of this dress that I have been so anxious to wear.

I didn’t make it, and it’s always a bit of a let down to say that to anyone who asks if I did.  Many of my friends know to expect me wearing me-made creations on a fairly regular basis.  But not this one.  It is very similar to a style that I might make (fit and flare dresses happen to be my most favorite and most made), but when I came across this one, I knew I couldn’t even buy the fabric for the price of the dress.  Fourty dollars was a great price, and I was ecstatic by the fact that I would have an original Hearts & Roses of London dress.  For years I have wanted one of those retro style, rockabilly brand dresses, but alas most often the prices are more than I would like to spend.  (That is part of the reason I started making all of the dresses I have been making myself).  I found the dress on Zulily.com, but it was more like the dress found me.  I got an email one day because I asked to be notified about a certain brand and style of dress, and as soon as I read it, I instantly made my way to the site.

I have only one negative thing to say about the dress, and the site, but in the end it ended up not being a negative after all.  Zulily doesn’t allow for returns, unless the item is defective, so I made sure that my measurements coincided with the size chart.  When I got the dress, it was a little too big.  I thought I was going to have to do some altering, but after washing it, it fit just fine.  I was back to being a happy camper, or as the case for this was, a happy dress buyer.  I now know my UK dress size, so hopefully for future reference, this won’t be a problem.

I have one more dress that I bought this particular day and it’s a Lindy Bop, it also was a little on the big side, but nothing a run through the washer didn’t fix.  Maybe I will have a better photo location for that one, but then again, maybe it will just be the backyard as usual.  I hope to get it worn very soon, and hopefully another outfit post will be up here before you know it.
