Sew Serendipity’s Monique dress and another exposed zipper. What else could I say but, I love this dress! Please excuse the wrinkles as I’d already worn the dress a whole day.
I don’t know how many I have made, and I’m not going to even count, but this has become my TNT, tried and true dress pattern: the dress that has been perfected and can be made up strait out of the envelope. I’ve not had to do too much to this original pattern. I think the only thing has been to add a few inches to the length so that I don’t have to add a hem band. I can pretty much make this one with my eyes closed and it’s a wonderful dress to make if you want to contrast fabrics.
As far as the fabric goes, this was another piece from the Tim Holtz’s collection. I don’t think I have come across any fabric from this designer that I haven’t loved. I found it one day at my local Joann’s, and I wondered how I had never seen it before. (I happen to really like old typewriters.) The best part of this find was that it was on the clearance table – 40% off; I didn’t even hesitate. I wish now that I would have bought a few of the others on that clearance table, cause when I went back this last week, the one I really wanted was gone. It’s still available online at fabric.com, but not at 40% off prices. Oh, well. Maybe I will luck out and find it at a different Joann’s.
The piece I used for the center band also came from Joann’s and it was from a fat quarter sale. There was enough for the band and the arm & neck facings. Homemade can sometimes be cheaper than ready to wear!
The finishing touch.
You can find all the others of this style that I have made here.
