This blog is about my life: who I am, where I go, what I wore, and what I made.

Who I am:

about-me-12-16

I am a stay at home, former school teaching mom, living and loving life with the man of my dreams – my guy – and our wonderful son – the boy.  In addition to this family of three, we have two Bichons named Aspen and Daisy. (Yuki was our first and her memory lives on in the blog)  I love the Lord Jesus Christ more than anything and rejoice that I have life in him.

What I do:

I have been a stay at home wife and mom for over 20 years, most of which also being a home educator.  When my son graduated in 2019, I decided to take my love for teaching and nutrition to another level.  I am a Pn1 Certified Nutrition Coach with goals for continuing my education in the nutrition and wellness field.  Besides being a mom, helping others with their nutrition goals and teaching them how to get there is the perfect job for me.  I love what I do!

I am also a hobby winemaker as well as a grape grower – vintner in the making is what I like to think of myself – and have a muscadine farm in rural West Tennessee.

My other hobbies include: photography, weightlifting (I am a bit of a health and fitness nut), and blogging, of course.  When I am not grading papers or doing any of these other things, you can find me in front of my sewing machine making a new dress, or searching online for a new pair of Doc Martens.  (I’ve kind of had a thing for them since my early teens, and I haven’t grown out of it yet.)

Where I go:

I love to travel!  I originally started this blog as a travel journal, but when the traveling wasn’t happening as much as I would have liked, my blog evolved into what it is today.  These days my traveling consists of driving to and fro on the back roads of West Tennessee, but should I find myself on a plane, or somewhere out of the state, I will be sure to let you all know.

What I wore:

I have always had an interest in fashion.  Even though I primarily work from home, I find it important to dress for the day.  It could be very easy to slip into the habit of wearing sweatpants and flip flops all of the time, but that style is not for me.  While this blog doesn’t exactly fit the typical fashion blog mold, I like to think of it as one sometimes (self-proclaimed wanna-be-fashionista, is also something I like to think that I am).  Here on the blog you will also find me writing about some of my favorites in regards to the fashion world, whether it be purchased or made – mostly made these days.

Stay around for a bit, let me know what you think, and even feel free to follow along.  Or, you could just check back again to read what I am up to later.  I post at least once a week with topics ranging from domestic life to fashion, a little bit of photography and sewing, and everything in between.

  1. Hello Erika, I am happy to have found your blog! I love the positive energy of your writing and look forward to reading through your work more. Great fashion too; clothing can be an amazing opportunity to put a little more art into the world, I definitely appreciate others’ creative outlooks on style. Happy writing, travels, art, family, and all aspects of life to you. 🙂

  2. I have just found your blog and I am very impressed. I have become your newest follower. I am about the same age as you and have just undergone an image change. I have been a skirts/dresses girl for the whole of my adult life as have been some of my friends. One of my friends decided to buy some pants a few months back and I had a feeling that I wanted to wear pants as well. Eventually I bought some black dress pants and find them very comfortable. I was very self conscious wearing them in public at first but they are very modest and i wear them with a tunic. I think I will soon buy some more pants. Do you wear pants? It would be interesting to see a post on ideas for pants as well as skirts.

    1. I am so glad you have found my blog, and that you like it! Thanks for your comment. Yes, I do wear pants and I much prefer dress pants, or more of a tailored style, to jeans. (I do wear jeans though, but usually have such a hard time finding a pair that fits well.)
Funny you should recommend some styling with pants, I was recently thinking how I haven’t done any posts around a nice pair; I will definitely do something about this. 🙂
Thanks for your input, and for following along. I am kind of in the middle of a personal style change myself…

  3. OK – I won’t leave til I tell you what I think. 😆 I think this is something right down my alley (if I had an alley, it would be right there). I love giving old things a new mission in life, and I found your blog by looking through the events thingy on The Daily Post. Reckon I’ll hang around and swap howdies with ya for awhile. Love that you live in Tennessee, too!! My home state (East Tennessee, that is). How I miss it.

    1. Thanks for letting me in on your thoughts! 🙂 I am glad you found my blog. Tennessee is such a pretty state, but I definitely do think the eastern part is much prettier! I would like to spend some more time out that way. Hope you do stop back by my blog again, and thanks for saying ‘Hi’!
