If the Dress Fits

This here blog of mine occasionally veers of into the direction of fashion, in case you haven’t already noticed.  It is something I have always enjoyed, and I am liking this creative outlet for it.  So, before you read any further, let me warn you, this is another post about shopping, online shopping to be more precise.

The internet, being the vast world of information that it is, has helped me some with this little slice of my life.  I rarely ever read any fashion magazines anymore, even despite the two year subscription to Lucky Magazine that I may have.  (All of those Lucky Breaks I might be missing out on.)  The world wide web has also made the task of shopping a little bit different.  No longer does one have to load up and drive at least 35 minutes, in my case, to get to a real mall – remember WalMart is not the mall!  Nor does this same person, me, have to drive an hour and a half to check out all of the cutesie, niche, boutiques that can be found only in the real, big city.  (Yes, Nashville, you are a real city on my blog!)

Internet shopping, and not just on ebay, is a thing of the now!  So you can bet I was very happy when I was contacted not long ago about this site called Stanford Row.  I thought I might have a look around and see what it was all about.  The site has many boutiques to chose from with all sorts of styles.  The first thing that caught my attention was stated under the heading, “Where everything is made to you.” 

Made to me, I thought, this sounds good.  In my initial invitation, it was suggested that I stop on by and take a look, specifically at how the fitting room works, so I did.  I got my handy dandy measuring tape out and got all of my specifics.  Everything from top to bottom, and then I browsed through the nice sized selection of shops to see what I could find.

Since I was only browsing, I picked the first few things that caught my eye, never mind the price.  These were three of my favorites:

 

The first dress, Autumnal Dress.  I love the color, the full skirt, and the Peter Pan collar.

Dress number two, the Zooey Dress.  It has a great print, I like the color, and I love the look of the fit.  Plus, it has a Peter Pan collar – can you tell I am a fan of this kind of collar?

And the third dress, V-Back Yellow Floral Dress.  What is not to like?  I think the back is my favorite part.

Okay, the dresses are picked, now on to the fitting process.  It was as if I would be picking out a custom made dress. Before I had selected the dress, I went to the fitting room and made myself a fitting room profile.  Then after I picked the dress out, I was only asked for a few specific measurements.  It would have saved some time to just have picked the dress first and then filled in what was necessary for that item after, but it is kind of nice to have the measurements for everything else on file for future use.

Price’s start at about $14.00 and go as high as $4,000.00 – talk about a special occasion!  But for something you know will fit, and is really something unique, it is worth paying a little extra, in my opinion.  While I didn’t purchase anything the day I was window shopping, I wouldn’t rule it out as a possibility.  I love the idea of getting a dress that fits everywhere, right out of the package.  No alterations, hems, sleeve adjustments, etc, which are all things I have done to some of my own store bought dresses.  Also, returns seem to be pretty straightforward, which is a good thing.

Maybe with next month’s dress allowance, but in the meantime, I still have plenty of shops left to browse…
