I mentioned last week about having the chance to try out a set of whiskey stones. The stones I was sent were these
Ramini brand Premium Whiskey Stones . Nine small, little, natural soapstone squares that keep your whiskey – or whatever drink you chose – cool without the worry of it becoming watered down. The stones are specifically marketed for whiskey drinks, and that is the drink I chose for my review.
Whiskey just happens to be a drink for me that I do really like the taste of all by itself, and I especially don’t like it when it ends up watered down, so these stones seemed like the perfect addition to that occasional whiskey night cap.
I wasn’t unfamiliar with whiskey stones before this review. I had looked into getting a set before, but never did end up with one. It’s just one of those specialty items that might seem like a good idea at the time, but since I am not a serious whiskey drinker, it was just an idea that passed. Now that I have a set, I reckon I will be using them every time we decide to have ourselves a bit of whiskey, and I do really like them. I like the way they look in the glass, and the best part: they do not water down your drink. If you are like me, you probably sip on your whiskey, so having non-melting cubes to cool it might make the perfect addition. And these whiskey stones do a fine job of keeping your drink cool!
Some points to consider about these stones: the soapstone is not something that will scratch your glassware. This is a good thing and something I hadn’t even thought of. We were kind of careful when we put them into our glasses, since they were heavier than ice cubes and we didn’t want to break the glass, but it didn’t dawn on me that putting stones into glassware might scratch it. Another thing, they are non-porous so they aren’t supposed to absorb odors or flavors. I did notice they had a slight whiskey smell to them shortly after having used them, but I will admit I only rinsed them off and hadn’t actually washed them with soap yet when I noticed the smell. These are available in sets of 3, 9, or 18. The set I received was a nine piece set and it was the perfect size for two.
The whiskey stones come nicely packaged with a small velvet storage pouch and an email with drink recipes. My guy and I have yet to try any of the recipes, but probably one day when we are in the mood for whiskey again we will get the chance to try some out. I’d say these would make a neat gift for those whiskey connoisseurs in your life. I actually don’t know any whiskey connoisseurs, but my guy and I will gladly enjoy these cooling stones for future drinks to come.
*I received this item at a discounted price for the purpose of a review. All opinions are my own and are 100% truthful.
So, the most important question, do the stones actually work? (do they actually cool the whiskey?)

Yes, they do actually cool the whiskey. Quite nicely too! How’d I overlook that main point? I will have to fix that.
