Sometimes you just have to get out of the house and go for a drive! Well, today that is exactly what we did. It wasn’t exactly spur of the moment, we had heard about a drive in the country with plenty of winding roads and beautiful scenery- a great ride with the Mini- a few weeks ago, and today was the perfect day for it. It has been rainy all week, but today the sun came out and it was beautiful! We got the family loaded up – all four of us with Yuki dog included – and headed out.
One thing that was spur of the moment though, was the very cool cafe I found online as we were walking out the door. It was about 15 miles out of the way, in the small town of Waverly, but it was well worth the extra miles. A small coffee shop with a Scottish feel, great decor, and very good coffee and desserts. It is called the Waverly Cafe and doubles as a book store with local artwork and such on display and for sale. A great find! It was located on Main St. in the town square.
After this, we headed back to our windy road destination. It was pretty the whole way; lots of green trees with beautiful blue skies, and just the right amount of puffy clouds all around. The road at first didn’t seem to me like it was the one we were looking for, then just as I was thinking it was too straight, we turned off and there we were. Plenty of curves and just as it was described, a great road for the Mini! We went through a Mennonite or Amish community, I couldn’t tell, but we even got to pass buggies as we went.
I loved it! The scenery was beautiful and it really is a fun drive when SPORT mode is engaged. Towards the end of this road though, the boy said he was feeling car sick. Good thing we were about done with the drive. I guess I am the only one who doesn’t mind twisting and turning roads in this family. Well, Yuki didn’t seem to mind either and my guy was fine as long as he was the one driving!
Once off of this fun road, we were only minutes away from the Grinder’s Switch Winery – our final destination for the day. We have never been to a real winery before and it was a new experience to be there and get to sample all of the wines. I was not expecting to find anything we would really like – most of the Tennessee wines I have tasted have been way too sweet- but, we were happy to have found one we really did like. And as it turns out, this winery is one of four on a wine tasting trail that we had also heard about. So we are one stamp ahead when we get to tour the other three!
It was a great day!
