Well, it was pretty much like most weeks lately: a lot of school, a lot of time spent in the kitchen, and a lot of time spent at the gym.  Those three things pretty much happen on a very regular basis, and those three things pretty much take up most of my time.  So instead of another Friday post all about them, again, I will write about my current thoughts on blogging, and give you a few of my highlights from the week, I can surely come up at least three of those, maybe even five.

First, blogging lately.  I haven’t been doing as much of it as I would like.  I did do something about that this week and here I am working on post number three.  I have simply just not made the time for it like I would prefer.  This blog isn’t going anywhere any time ever – as long as I have access to a computer and internet connection anyway – but I really haven’t been happy with how it has just mostly consisted of Friday recaps of my week.  I know I have more to write about than just that!  So, after a little blog-evaluation, and possibly a little touch of bloggers-block, I am putting more effort into this little piece of the internet that I call my own.  My goal right now is to get at least three posts up a week, and this was week one with that goal of mine.  I’m sure you all were getting a little tired of only reading about my day to day life anyway.

Okay, so with that out of the way, let’s get with this week’s highlights.  I will start with a flower and a recent burst of yard inspiration.

A dear friend of mine gave me bulbs for a certain kind of lily – I can’t now remember precisely what it was called, I think a surprise lily – and I planted them.  That was in the fall of 2011.

Silly us 2011Just to show how long ago 2011 seems, this was us in the fall of 2011.  How my boy has grown!

Back to that flower and those bulbs.  I planted the bulbs and nothing grew.  We got our dog a few months after this time, and where I planted the bulbs ended up being where we were teaching her to go to the bathroom.  I figured I would never see a flower from those bulbs after this.  But then this week, I saw a red thing beside the boat we have parked in this particular area of the yard.  Could it be..? I thought.  Yes, it was.  A lone lily that had made it through all those years of just being stuck under the ground.  It was a happy moment.  I will be on the look out for more lily-like things next year.  If this isn’t a surprise lily, it definitely should be.

Anytime I have something pretty growing in my yard I get all inspired to plant more pretty things.  And even though the growing season is coming to an end, I am wanting to spend some time out in the yard.  I am now ready to tackle all those weeds, and get some spaces made up where I can plant more flowers to have coming out when spring comes back around.  As soon as we get a little bit of rain, I’m going to do it.

Hunting season starts

The next highlight of my week, getting my guys ready for hunting season.  This consisted of me and the boy going to the property to clean out wasps from one of the deer stands.  It’s the least I can do, and actually I mostly stood around taking pictures of wildflowers while my boy did all the work.  This work, however, probably needed a little more supervision, because when it was all said and done, it wasn’t done.  I should know by now how to explain myself very precisely when talking to my boy.  We got it all taken care of though, and now the guys in my life are ready for their first hunt of the year this Sunday.  Me, I will be browsing fabric that day and coming up with my fall sewing plan; also, I will be starting two more batches of wine.  They hunt and I make things.

Lastly for this week’s highlights, wine.  (It was either wine or weights, I couldn’t help it.)  We opened up a bottle the other night, and I am happy to say that it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  I was only thinking that because it is still very new wine, only bottled a month ago, so really we should be waiting longer to try it.  But it’s hard waiting sometimes.  I am always anxious for that first try.  Sampling it before it’s bottled doesn’t count.  It isn’t as good as it will be, but not too bad in my opinion.

I will stop here, and leave my list with those three.  As always, I am happy it’s Friday; and as always, I still have more to do around the house this afternoon.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!  I will be back Monday, probably to tell you all about what’s up on my sewing schedule.  Until then…

Don't leave yet! Tell me what you think.
