Field trips are so much fun! And where I live, there are so many places nearby to explore. This Tuesday, our little school group found ourselves enjoying one of Tennessee’s many state parks: the Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park. I have a nice lot of photos today all about the trip.
We started in the museum portion of the park, where our gracious ranger gave us a little history lesson on some of the life and culture of the river folk from times past. He also showed us some of the animals that were on display, and let anyone who wanted to hold the resident corn snake.
After we saw a Civil War video (because of course there would be a Civil War video), most of the little ones perused the small gift shop, while others of us went outside to take some more pictures.
Outside of the museum there were some pretty scenic views across the Tennessee River and of the Johnsonville area.
From here, we made our way back down the steep and windy road to the welcome center for a very short hike. We had more younger ones with us than bigger children, so the ranger suggested the 1/4 mile hike down to the river. It was perfect!
I would love to see this trail in the springtime. But just as lovely as spring flowers would be, I find the leaves and signs of fall to be pretty beautiful as well.
After all that rain we’ve had recently, we weren’t even sure this little outing was going to happen. But since the rain clouds headed out, we had ourselves a nice, cloudy day in the park after all.
